Cultivating Diversity in Sustainability, by Emily Andrews

emily_andrewsWe have the opportunity to diversify the conservation population to include all races and social classes and broaden our message rather than preaching to the choir. Health, nourishment, and access to opportunity are also what sustainability is about. We can show how conservation connects to hip-hop.  We can tweak the language we use to and the way we say it without losing the passion and the message behind it. We can create green careers to lift people out of poverty and into the middle class. We can teach people how to grow food and remind them that this is part of their ancestral past. We can support young entrepreneurs with social innovations to transform the world of sustainable business. We at Blue and Yellow Logic are doing these things and are looking for others to stand with us so we can stand with you.

Emily Andrews is a partner at Blue & Yellow Logic, a Denver-based, woman-owned social enterprise existing to connect, educate & mobilize People of Color about urban sustainability and the green economy.
